Silhouette Project #5: Valentine’s Day Table-Top Screen

I am so IN LOVE with my new Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine!!!  Every time I use it I say, “Thank you Santa!!!”  (Santa a/k/a my very generous husband!!!)

Since Johnny was so sweet to buy the Cameo for me, I wanted to use it to make a very special card for our 30th Anniversary, which is on February 11, 2014.

Silhouette Cameo, Valentine's Day, Table Top ScreenI saw a fabulous Valentine’s table top screen on Kate’s Paper Creations and asked her for permission to CASE the project which she kindly gave. (CASE = Copy and Share Everything!)

Once I completed the project I was soooooo excited that I couldn’t wait until February to give it to him, so instead I gave it to him right away! He absolutely LOVED the screen and was amazed that I made something so beautiful and intricate for him!!!  (Shhhhh! Don’t tell him how easy it is to make something so fabulous with the Silhouette Cameo. It’ll be our little secret. Haha!!!)

Here’s how I made the table top screen:

For the three panels I used “2 Windows” by Alaa’ K found in the Silhouette Online Store.  I “ungrouped the design and deleted the individual window panes then made the window opening a little bit wider.  I added two squares for “feet” at the bottom then “grouped” all the elements. I copied the design twice, lined all three windows up side-by-side and “welded” the panels together, then sent it to the Silhouette Cameo to cut.  At first I was having major issues and could NOT get it to cut out properly.  I finally determined it was because I was using the Core’dinations sandable card stock from Stampin’ Up!  I love the texture of this paper, but it is just too fibrous and the fibers were clogging up the blade. Once I googled how to clean the blade and switched to 12″ x 12″ Real Red card stock from Stampin’ Up!, the machine cut the windows out beautifully!  I attached White Vellum to the back of the screen with glue dots.

I used “Butterfly on Flowers” for the focal designs in the side panels.  I just “mirrored” the image to use on the right panel. For these design elements I used the fabulous Silver Foil Sheets from Stampin’ Up!  The Silhouette cut through the foil sheets so easily and I was amazed at the delicate details it produced!!!  By using the silver foil the screen looks beautiful in the daylight, then at night it looks gorgeous when lit with a candle placed behind the screen!

Finally, I used “love you – calligraphy” for the center panel.  I attached all of the focal elements with glue dots. You only need to attach the pieces in a couple places. For the letters I rolled glue dots between my fingers to make them into a long, skinny “snake” pieces that would fit on the back of the widest parts of the words.

I think this makes a fabulous anniversary, Valentine’s Day or wedding card that you would be so proud to give and the recipients would treasure forever!  It fits in a standard business size envelope, although I used my fun Envelope Punch Board from Stampin’ Up! to turn a lovely piece of Designer Series paper into an envelope. So quick, so easy and sooooo impressive looking!

There are a variety of ways you could decorate this table top screen for any occasion, holiday or season throughout the year. If you decide to make one, I hope you’ll come back here and share a photo of your screen with us!

Wishing you Peace, Love and Joy today and always,

Joyce

P.S. Thanks again Kate for allowing me to CASE your project! I’m really proud of how mine turned out and I couldn’t have done it without your tutorial. Here is Kate’s original project that inspired me:
