#OolaYLChallenge – Family: Focus on Your Relationships

#OolaYLChallenge 3: Family Today the challenge was to focus on the the third “F” of Oola—Family.  This was an easy challenge for me, because my family is my EVERYTHING!!!! One of the questions in the challenge was, “Have you ever felt like your presence is a present?”   My answer to that is an enthusiastic, “YES!!!!” Often our family will plan time together instead of purchasing presents. Last year as a Mother’s Day gift my sister and I took our parents to the Missouri Botanical Gardens to visit the Butterfly House. Then we took them to ride the St. Louis Carousel Continue Reading →

Being in debt is a very un-Oola way to live your life!!!

Challenge 2: Finance Wow, two tough challenges in a row!!!  How does #OolaYL know exactly what my struggles are in life?!?!?! According to #OolaYL, in the same manner that eating fewer calories than you burn is a simple approach to managing your weight, spending less money than you make is a simple approach to managing your finances. Apparently being in debt is a very un-Oola way to live your life!!! Of course! I totally get that.  It’s a concept that I easily understand….and yet….somehow my husband and I just keep getting farther and farther behind on our credit card bills!!!  Continue Reading →

Oola YL Challenge: Love your body!!!

#OolaYLChallenge

Today is the first day of the 21-Day Oola YL Challenge!!! Challenge #1 was “Fitness”….but there’s a twist to the challenge that I wasn’t expecting.  I thought Oola YL was going to challenge me to do 10,000 steps today, or some other “get up and move” challenge. Instead today’s #OolaYLChallenge was to think of three things you love about your body. Whoa, whoa, WHOA!!!!  That’s a hard one!!!  It would be easier to get in 10,000 steps today!!! I see my friends who are always hitting the gym and getting their 10,000+ steps in, and I feel embarrassed because I Continue Reading →

Non-Toxic Spring Cleaning with Thieves Household Cleaner

Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner for all natural non toxic Spring Clean

Spring Cleaning…..where do I even begin???? This meme from someecards.com says it all.  Hahaha!!! Seriously though, I have always hated cleaning any time of the year because of (1) the nauseating smell of the toxic fumes from cleaning products; (2) the horrible headaches and respiratory issues I would get from inhaling said toxic fumes; (3) the way cleaning products would cause my skin to be itchy and raw with severe eczema; and (4) worrying about the long-term health issues of being exposed to products that contain known toxins and carcinogens…..then worrying even more about the unknown dangers because thousands of Continue Reading →

Essential Oils vs. the Dark Side of the Perfume Industry

Essential Oil Perfumes

Perfumes can be both intoxicating and seductive.  Many perfumes evoke deep emotions or sweet memories. However, there is a dark side to the perfume industry to which you may not be aware.  Commercial perfume manufacturers are allowed to withhold information on their ingredients to protect trade secrets.  Many of the secret ingredients are potentially hazardous synthetic chemicals (mostly petrochemicals) that are known toxins and carcinogens. More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals. These chemicals include: benzene derivatives, aldehydes, phthalates, and a slew of other known toxins that are capable of causing cancer, birth Continue Reading →

Have a Healthy Smile!

When I was researching for the Essential Oils 101 class that I teach for John A. Logan College, one of the subjects I wanted to present was about toxins in our personal hygiene products and how to find all-natural, non-toxic solutions. One of the shocking things I discovered was that there are particles of plastic added to my family’s favorite toothpaste.  Yes, little balls of plastic!!!  According to Crest, polyethylene plastic is in your toothpaste for decorative purposes only. That’s right, the only reason plastic is in there is because it looks cool. Personally, I think it is NOT COOL Continue Reading →

SAFE & Effective Foaming Hand Soap!!!

When I was researching for the “Non-Toxic Life & Home” segments of the “Essential Oils 101” class that I teach through John A. Logan College, I discovered the dangers of triclosan in hand soaps, toothpaste and other personal care products. It completely freaked me out!!!  I immediately threw out the anti-bacterial hand soaps, toothpastes and other products in our home and replaced them with all-natural products!!! I learned that as early as 1978, the FDA proposed a rule that would have prohibited triclosan (and other toxic chemicals) from being used in hand soaps because it was NOT SHOWN TO BE Continue Reading →

Back to School with Young Living Essential Oils

I was out walking this morning and the neighborhood was sooooooo quiet. I got to thinking about how sorry I feel for kids nowadays. It’s still summer and they’re already back in school. Each year it seems like their school year is starting earlier and earlier. When I was young school didn’t start until after Labor Day. (Wow, when did I get old enough to start using the “When I was young…” phrase!!! Haha!!!) If your kids are back in school, there are a number of essential oils you can use to support them and keep them healthy.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

In addition to the celebrating the spiritual side of Easter Sunday, our family always has so much fun celebrating the joy of Easter with beloved traditions. Even though our girls are grown, they still love getting Easter baskets filled with dyed eggs, candy, chocolate Easter bunnies (with the ears bitten off of course! Haha!) and little gifts. We leave a plate of carrots out for the Easter Bunny and he always leaves the girls a note for them to read the next morning. I found this darling Bunny Box (Design #57771) from Snapdragon Snippets in the Silhouette Online Store and thought it Continue Reading →
